The Hendersonville Pentecostal Holiness Church is part of the
International Pentecostal Holiness
Church headquartered in Oklahoma
City, OK. The
denomination is arranged regionally into conferences that serve
different areas of the United States. We are part of the
Cornerstone Conference which
serves most of North Carolina, and parts of Virginia.
HPHC started in Henderson County as a Pentecostal Mission under
the leadership of Rev. Joe Miller Hill. The church began in a small
building on Cherry Street in Hendersonville where eventually a
brick church building was built that still stands today. In 1976,
under the leadership of Pastor Homer Jenkins, the church moved
into a beautiful rock faced church building on Washington Street
where the church was housed until July of 2005. At that time the
church moved into its new 26,000 square foot facility at 991 Upward
Road in Flat Rock. Our new sanctuary seats 450 people and
the Lord is filling it up quickly!
Our church has always been about loving people to Jesus Christ.
At HPHC you will find a loving atmosphere. Many people say that
they have never felt loved anywhere like they did when they walked
into a service at HPHC.
Here are some frequently asked questions:
1. How many people attend HPHC?
We currently minister to around 400 people in morning worship
attendance. We are seeing a steady growth in number.
2. What music style will I find at HPHC?
We believe in blended worship that includes contemporary praise
and worship and traditional hymns. We endeavor to appeal musically
to young and old alike by keeping a balance.
3. How should I dress if I visit?
From suits and ties to jeans and tennis shoes, you will find a
wide range of dress at HPHC. We believe in modesty and sensible
standards of decency in dress, but we don’t enforce a legalistic
dress code upon anyone.
4. What are the services like?
In most every worship service you will find, prayer, songs of
worship, hymns, and a time of preaching or teaching the Bible.
There is also a time in most every service to receive prayer and
support for specific needs.
5. What are the people like?
We are a diverse group of people. People of many ages, races,
backgrounds, and social standings worship here. We believe those
distinctions should never divide the body of Christ. You
will almost certainly find someone of your age and background when
you come to worship.
6. What is the preaching like?
We believe in Biblical teaching and preaching with a good mix
of theology, doctrinal content, real life illustrations and humor.
We also use drama from time to time to reach our generation with
the message of Christ.
7. How can I get involved in ministry at
HPHC?
There are several ministries to choose from. A big part of our
mission is getting people involved ministry, so if you are wholeheartedly
committed to Christ and his work, you will find a place to work
here.
8. I’ve heard that Pentecostals handle
snakes and swing from chandeliers? Do you do this?
We say this with tongue in cheek, but
we do get asked that question. First
of all, the Pastor is scared of snakes! We don’t have
any chandeliers either! Seriously some folks think that Pentecostals
are religious "weirdos". Truthfully we are just normal
people, Bible believing Christians who enjoy their relationship
with God. The services are lively and exciting! We believe Jesus
Christ is worth getting excited about! |
